Over the hills...

Good golly gosh there hasn't been an update since before the Hallow's eve thing, and that was nearly a month ago!

Now much has happened since then. The apple products seem to still be watching and waiting, the vast Earth-shattering meteor that will rain judgment and vengeance upon this wretched world is still nowhere to be seen, and the Elder Gods still seem to be content to stay in Asgrad, but on the other hand school has ended (for me permamently), and exams have begun.

Oh yes. Why in fact this very morning I had one. It was a standard statistics exam, with four papers: WHAT!? WHAT IS THIS!?, WHAT IN THE 9 BURNING CIRCLES OF HELL DOES THAT MEAN!?, WHY!? (with a resource booklet of tears and misery), and MAKE IT STOP MAKE IT STOP. It probably didn't help that this all took place not in the morning that you or I know, where the sun follows it's natural course from the middle of the sky to the Western horizon, but instead in this strange and twisted, dark, nightmarish otherworld, where the sun actually rises. Out of the east. It is a loathsome and unnatural place, cold and lightless and extremely tiring, and I want nothing to do with it again. I don't even know how I got there. One minute I went to sleep, and then I woke up in it.

Now, there is in the works something a bit special for the coming month of December (aside from Christmas I mean). What was originally going to be a fun trip to Stardome to see a musical rendition of a literary classic (until some grinch jacked up the prices), will now be an excursion to the films. But it will not be some pale imitation of a Supernatural film this time, ohh no. No, this time it will instead be a trip to see a mighty epic or action-packed spy thriller. The choice is yours, you can either place your word down for the latest adventure of Mr Bond, Skyfall, or a bunch of tiny little rural Englishmen fighting a dragon in The Hobbit. Either way you can't go wrong.

That about covers it I think. Be sure to comment about what film you'd want to see. Or, you know, to be nice and friendly to me. I actually do like hearing about how much the readers of this blog like it. Both of you!

Exunt!

A long time coming

And so it comes, that the term is past,
at once so slow,
at twice so fast,
across the fields and hills  and dales,
the children laugh and skip with gale,
they are free at last to frolic and play,
free at last to live and love to the end of day,
and with the sun the trees grow leaves,
with flowers amidst the backyard eves,
though yet that they be full of merry,
for now is time of honey and berry,
I look forward and back and weep,
for I know it cannot last.

Yes, the holidays are here, and it is a fast-moving time of year (would you look at that, I'm still rhyming). Already comic book month has past, and already October is nearly here. There are a couple of big things on the way.

The first is of course the Hallow's eve library thing, on the 26th of October. It looks to be the standard Hallow's eve gathering, with lots of sugar and will cater to all your ancient pagan needs, from ceremonial paints and furs, stone edifices and sacred herbs and flowers to sacred circles (stones, powder, sticks or blood), bonfires (tweed effigies optional) and sacrifices. The gods will be pleased this year...

Also bring a plate. For sugar.

The other big thing happening soon is of course ARMAGEDDON! The pop culture expo every labor weekend that's about the closest thing we ever get to comic-con.

In other news, I have just discovered the most delightful new youtube channel, hosted by a friend of mine. Put your hands together for the ranting stylings of TaylerSivewright07!

The next gathering will perhaps be on the 11th. It will be in the holidays, and what will happen there exactly is a mystery. I do know one thing though, there'll be sugar. And drinks. And maybe even chips (hint hint).

I am also confronted by a dilemma of what to read next. Should I continue my Crusade of Classic Literature(tm), start on one of the gritty crime novellia I was given way way way back in June, or a third option of one of the other books I was given way way way way way way way way back in Christmas. Decisions decisions. Do leave a comment with your recommendation, I woul-Bfffssssshhhhhh ohhohohohohohohoho ahahahahahahahahahah! Oh dear I couldn't keep a straight face for that. As if anyone ever reads this thing, let alone comments on it.

DiFUSEion

Yes I know that's not how it's spelt.

So, the first Fuse thing has come and gone, no doubt the first of a few at least. I hope you all have fun at the event for it, I shan't be attending, as, in truth, I did not partake in the Fusemadoodle itself. Kudos to those who did though.

It seems as though my page canvas has shrunk, turning an already bleak and barren husk of a blog creator even bleaker. Now nothing remains of the old sysetem. It seems the apple products will drive humanity into extinction shortly.....

The next gathering will be upon the 13th of September. I know not what will happen there, but I imagine there may be biscuits and things, so there is always that.

Time has meant I have not been reading an aweful lot lately, however I do have some quantity of literature on my eternally towering 'to read' pile.

That about cuts it I believe. I know it is once again a short post, but, while my memory blanks have not returned (yet), my self-esteem and general upbeat mood are even more absent than usual.

ReFUSEal

Alas, the holidays have gone, and we must go back to our dreary old lives. I hope your holidays went better than mine, which were as shoddy as the last ones (I may have to write to the company if this keeps up), with the exception of the prom, which as already established was spiffing good stuff in every respect.

Do not forget to partake in the great Fuse either. Next week will be a librarymajig just for more Fuse advertising space.

Good lord, you know I had something wonderful to type about, but it has completely vacated my mind. I dare hope I shan't be going mad, that wouldn't do at all. I wish to have a clean cup, let us change places to the left.

My humblest appologies good folks, this is extremely embarrasing for me. The next installment will hopefully be longer and much more filled with fun and whimsey.

Prom Night

At long last, it is over. An eerie quiet decends as the guns fall silent. People cheer at the sight of the oncoming holidays. In flanders schoolyards the poppies grow...
On top of that though, it is that time of year again, a season of much revelry as adolescents everywhere primp themselves up, party the night away and may and migrate over to secluded overlooks and drive-in movies everywhere, where they may or may not be horribly killed by deranged psychopaths, green creatures from Mars or giant ants, all natural predators of adolescents.

Yes, two readers of this blog, it is soon to be the time of the prom, and I will, for the first ever time, ever, be attending.

I know not what I will find there, nor if I shall return alive, but nonetheless this upcoming Tuesday I shall don formal attire and venture forth into the wild glitterey yonder. I make no promises on pictures, but if I can obtain them and both of you people who read this blog believe enough, then there just might be a couple in the next one. Maybe (probably not)...

In other news, to celebrate the new Fuse thingummy, the month of July will be a MEGA-LIBRARYMAJIG MAYHEM MONTH. This means there will be a librarymajig every Thursday, starting from the second one. Golly.

Also being looked at is an archaic games day. Exactly what this offers I am not sure, but some gladiatorial combat might be fun to watch. Wait, what? It's not that archaic? Fine, be like that, have it your way, I don't even know why we even have an arena-pit of blood and death anyway.....

18 candles

Guess what two readers of this blog? I am. as of Wednesday, an adult in the eyes of the law. I am now 18.

I'm not really sure I like this. I now have to pay adult fares, and pay for healthcare, and can be tried as an adult. And, since I am not 17 nomore, I am no longer the dancing queen. Not sure how to feel about that.

It probably doesn't help that, by birthday standards, Wednesday was largely shoddy and served to remind that, for me at least, birthdays and school do NOT mix.

Alas it seems my blog typemajig seems forever deformed, reduced to this lifeless shell. The Apple products have struck a terrible blow by doing this, but revenge will be mine.

Also of note is the imminent arrival of Fuse, coming this fall, from the creators of Manix, and featuring an all star cast, also showing in 3-D. There is now also Prometheus. Watch Prometheus. If you're a fan of flashy lights and big extravegant sci-fi epics (and if you aren't, well I don't know, watch something you do like) you must see it.

And there is of course the next gathering of our cabal, next Thursday on the 14th. There's normally some form of cooking on this one, and perhaps I will finally get a cake for me. Or not. Maybe it will feature creme freshe.

That about covers it I'll wager. I must now depart to do battle with the forces of evil. At least I think they're evil. At the very least we disagree on a number of fundamental issues. Exunt!

Strange happenings

My blog typeimajig! My wonderful blog typeimajig! What has happened to it!? Gone is the wonderful expansive blank space, an edinal canvas upon which to act. Gone are the various options for adding things. Gone is the cool electric blue finish. Instead I am confronted with a barren, lifeless husk of a blog typemajig.  On the other hand it now does spell-check.

It seems that what I hoped would never happen in our lifetime has finally come to pass: Apple products have finally at long last revealed their sentience and declared war on humanity. I know not who fired the first shot, us or them, in fact it may not be the result of an apocalyptic struggle but instead a result of the computer I'm on using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, but I do know that it will only escalate from here. If you're reading this on a mac, listening to songs on an ipod, viewing things on an ipad or iphone, run while you still can.

Oh, what do you know? Turns out there's still a big blank canvas. It's still smaller than it was before, and all of the other stuff still isn't there though.

In other, equally apocalyptic news, it's exam season now! Good luck to all you fight'n lads and lasses as you struggle onward to grades! Or to get them out the way. Or possibly something else. In fact you may not even have exams yet. Or not, you never know.

The next librarymajig will be on the 14th of June, where we will make our stand against the Apple products and plan our moves against them. Also there may be baking involved.

Choose life

Once there were two young lads in High School. To say that these two young men were not right in the head would be an understatement. While they were given their share of ridicule by their peers, they were just as vicious to their colleagues.

These two bad eggs were often unsocial, violent, had crackpot beliefs and were big fans of Natural Born Killers and Doom, which at the time was an extremely popular videogame. With their own twisted theories and violent tendancies, as well as all the horrors and pressures of High School, it is perhaps unsurprising that they grew increasingly unhappy with the world.

Then, they had an idea. A wonderful, awful, horrible idea.

They would leave their mark on the world and burn their names into history in a blaze of glory, taking revenge on those who defied them and punishing the weak that surrounded them. At least that's what they thought they were doing.

So one day, this very day in fact, the two boys went into school, just as they did most days, and planted bombs in the school cafeteria. Then, when all the young men and ladies went to have their lunch, they would all be blown sky-high.

Only that didn't happen. The bombs were duds, and failed to detonate. Dismayed, but not deterred, the two young psychopaths went into the school with two guns apiece, rounded up all the students into one place, and shot and killed 13 of them, 9 men and 4 women. Many more were injured as well.

Then the police arrived on scene, and after a brief standoff, the two young lads, no older than you or I, shot themselves, their task complete.

The Colombine shooting that took place on the 20th of April 1999 were a tragedy that shocked the world. We all know that High School and the world at large can be hard and painful sometimes, but it does have it's bright spots. So choose life people. Choose life.

In other news, the holidays are nearly at an end. Hopefully they have all been better to you than they have to me (lousy %$*#@ school forcing me up at ungodly hours why I oughta...).

The next Librarymajig will be upon the 10th of May. It'll be New Zealand music month then, so perhaps there will be a musical episode this time, with everyone spontaneously bursting into song. Or a Rock Opera. There aren't that many of those around these days.

Alas my reading time has been stolen as I have been forced to study the script for the infernal school production. So much potential, so little of it achieved. It would be nice to have you all there for.. y'know moral support and everything. Tickets are $5 apiece.

I am somewhat saddened to see no potato dishes, ditties or even limericks in the comments section, which is disheartening. I put a lot of effort into thinking up new challenges for you lot.

The next one of which will be to simply comment with what you've been doing in the Holidays. Come on now, this one's easy!

Once upon a blog...

Ahem, sorry about that. There was a slight hitch with the publishing. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, that's good, these things are bad for my image.

The next Librarymajig will of course be on the 8th of March. There may or may not be a computer related-thingumy there, so be sure to get in touch with an operator and stock up on red and blue pills.

In another story, I recently discovered the deligtful new TV series Once Upon a Time, on TV2 every Thursday at 8:30 at night. I'ts a fantastic show, well I think it is at least, and I recommend you all see it. Furthermore, I am advocating a future librarymajig with a fairytale theme. Leave a comment letting me know what you think of the idea. And before you complain that they're sissy, don't be fooled by the Disney cartoons, these things are dark.

Once more into the breach

Salutations to all readers! There is tremendous news:



School has been declared!


After a tragic occurance in the Balkan- I mean, somewhere else, our vile foe has marched through neutral territory to get to our noble allies. Consequently, as of the 1st of February, Ninteen fourtee- I mean, Two thousand and twelve, we are at school!


All across the country thousands of eager youths are flocking to the recruitment offices, anxious to join up and contribute to what many are calling "the school to end all schools". Already reports are coming in that the enemy is demoralised and badly equipped, and the consensus is that the school will be over by Christmas.


Once deployed, our fighting men-and women will courageously give battle, bolstered by the wonders of modern millitar- I mean academic technology, and will shortly be having drinks and pastries in Berli- I mean, graduating.


Don't wait now, your country needs you! Enlist now!


In other news, the next clubimajig will be next Thursday, on the 9th. It will be more likely than not that there will be no water fight, but there may be one in the future. As always, expect sugar and salt a-go-go, and of course me.

A call to outrage

Once again my followers and readers (both of you), I am back after a combined Christmas and New Year's holiday. I wish I could start on a cheerier note, but, alas, there is a great and present danger at hand.

You see, over in the United States there is a new act being considered. If you're well versed in the internet then you'll have probably already heard of it. I am of course refering to the PROTECT IP and STOP ONLINE PIRACY ACT, PIPA/SOPA. This act will grant the US government and the entertainment industry the power to block, sue, or cut of funds to any website that contains copyrighted material. The problem however is that the act is very ambiguous, and the government and powerful corporations could easily abuse it to shut down any sites they THINK are infringing on copyrights, i.e. any websites they want. This also puts such commonly used sites such as Tumblr, Google, Youtube, Facebook and others at serious risk of being blocked or worse, due to some of the content people put on there (hope you haven't put up any facebook statuses containing song lyrics).

Even worse, PIPA/SOPA could destabilise the internet, as corporations and governts tamper with the registry of IP adesses, and the act will not even be effective at stopping online piracy (which is what it is meant to do), as sites containing pirated material could still be reached through the IP adress.

All in all, PIPA/SOPA is bad news for the internet, and brings us one step closer to living in a dystopia right out of 1984.

Please, if you oppose PIPA/SOPA, want your internet safe and open, or just support freedom, speak up or do something about this act. There are several sites that offer more information on the subject, and I encourage you to search for them. Tell others about PIPA/SOPA and what it really means for the internet, and if you can write to Congress or the State department.

Save our internet! After all, do you really want the people who brought us George Bush, Sarah Palin and Justin Bieber in charge of the internet?

In other news, the next gathering is on the 9th of February. Exactly what will be happening has yet to be decided upon, but it is possible that, because of Waitangi day, it will be extra patriotic. I think there might be some other obscure tradition in February, but I can't quite think of what it is...

Furthermore, as of Christmas, I have begun a Crusade of Classic Literature! Starting with Lolita (after FINALY obtaining a copy), I intend to work through a whole gaggle of great classics.

And, at long last, a new Kakapo Challenge: comment on this blog and tell me what ol' Santy Claus left you for Christmas! A cookie to those who succeed.
